Brekel Body / v3
Brekel Body v3
Markerless body motion capture with depth sensors and webcams
Works with MotionBuilder, Unity, Unreal Engine
Brekel Body v3 is a Windows application for real-time markerless body motion capture. It tracks people using depth sensors and webcams, no suits or markers needed, and records or live-streams the result as skeleton animation. Optionally it also does face tracking, either from the same sensor or from an HMC (Head Mounted Camera).
Supported sensors are the Azure Kinect DK, both Kinect generations, the Orbbec Femto Bolt, Femto Mega and Astra, the StereoLabs ZED 2 and ZED 2i, and the Intel RealSense D415, D435 and D455 (those three need the deep-learning tracker). Plain webcams work too, which needs an NVIDIA RTX GPU, and a Kinect v2 is limited to one sensor per machine by its driver.
Installs like any other app. No subscription, no cloud processing, no login. All data stays on your machine.

One sensor or many, mixed as you like
The app works with one or more sensors, connected to one or more machines, and different sensor brands and types can be mixed. Sensor alignment calibration and data fusion are built in: extra sensors see angles the others miss, which reduces occlusion problems and can grow the capture volume. Everything is visualized and tracked in real time.
For multi-machine setups you run the GUI on one machine and the included console version on the others, streaming their sensors over the network. The code is highly multi-threaded C++, so it scales with sensor count and CPU cores.
Which is also why there is no single hardware requirement to quote: what you need depends on how many sensors you run and which type they are. The documentation goes into it, and the free trial is the easiest way to find out whether your own machine keeps up.
Running a Kinect v2 on Windows 11? If it keeps dropping out and reconnecting a few seconds into a capture, that is a Windows audio setting rather than the sensor or the port: see Kinect v2 keeps disconnecting on Windows 11.
Deep-learning tracker
An optional deep-learning based tracker adds joint estimation in 2D and 3D on top of the sensor tracking. It improves quality and is much better at telling left/right and front/back of people apart than some (older) sensors. It runs on an NVIDIA RTX GPU (2000 series or newer) or on the CPU (AVX2 support required, which most CPUs from 2013 on have). It is also what makes plain webcams usable as tracking sensors.
Recording and streaming
Recordings export to FBX (compatible with almost all 3D apps), BVH, TXT, CSV, BPC (Brekel Point Cloud) and WAV audio. Skeleton naming conventions are included for Autodesk HumanIK, 3ds Max Biped, Blender, Mixamo, Poser/Daz and Second Life, and you can edit or add your own.
For live streaming the app comes with plugins for Autodesk MotionBuilder (up to 2027), an example script and scene for Unity, and Unreal Engine support via Live Link (4.27 through 5.x). Generic TCP/UDP and OSC streaming are there for everything else.
Licensing
The free trial is the full application with two limits: recordings stop at 10 seconds, and live streaming into MotionBuilder, Unity and Unreal Engine is disabled. Network sensors do work in the trial, so a multi-machine setup can be tested before buying, and so can tracking quality and every export format.
A license is perpetual: it never expires and you can always run and install the application. It includes one year of maintenance updates for the v3 branch; after that you keep using what you have, or buy a one-year maintenance update when you want newer versions.
The Single Sensor license uses one sensor at a time (any brand or type). The Multi Sensor license uses as many sensors as you want, on one machine or across networked machines. How trials, evaluations and licenses work in general: see licensing.
