Brekel Kinect v0.50 update

Motor/LED support doesn’t an additional driver anymore.
Plus this version should be more stable when doing long continuous recordings.

Have a good 2012!

are you doing this nice software for Android as an app?? It will be cool for the near future scan with your mobile or conect my Galaxy Note with Kinect Camera and scan everywhere ,do you think galaxy Note 2 that has an 1.6 quad processor with 2 gb of ram will be enough to scann a 3d model as a statue for example..??

    • brekel says:

It needs a Kinect sensor attached through USB and only runs on windows so it’s bound to a desktop or fast laptop.

Maybe someday when phones will be equipped with depth sensors…..

Any chance you will release for Mac in the future. A lot of us out there would love that and would gladly donate for your efforts. Really cool stuff!

    Hey there,

I’ve completed the v0.50 install, plugged my Kinect sensor in and can successfully run the NIsimpleviewer sample. However when I run brekelkinect.exe it comes back with the error. The event viewer details of the error are:-

Faulting application name: brekelKinect.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4efdcbf8
Faulting module name: atioglxx.dll, version: 6.14.10.8304, time stamp: 0x49344650
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0074a1ba
    Faulting process id: 0xdb4
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cd20b7e113b2a9
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Brekel Kinect\brekelKinect.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atioglxx.dll
    Report Id: 381fa90d-8cab-11e1-a147-0040d09ca22b

Have you seen this error before or have any ideas as to what maybe causing it?

I would be grateful for any help you can give me

    Thanks
    Ben

      This line:
      Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atioglxx.dll

Suggests it may have to do with the ATI OpenGL driver.
If you’re indeed running an AMD/ATI graphics card it may help to hop over to the AMD graphics drivers download page and try a different version.

Hi there and thanks for your response

I’ve got a feeling the ATI Graphics card in may laptop isn’t man enough for the job. Its running the latest drivers but struggles. Would rolling back to an earlier version of Brekkel say v40 update make a difference or would I lose out on too much functionality if it does work?

I installed and ran the brekkel package on, embarrasingly my mum’s, more recent Toshiba laptop 64bit i3 processor, 4gb ram, with an Intel HD Graphics card and it worked more or less like a dream.

Time for an upgrade I think.

Again thank you for your help so far. I have two further questions if thats ok.

Will the BrekelKinect work with most of the latest Nvidea and Intel Graphics? Are there any known Graphics cards that are not compatible?

I am in the process of getting started with the BrekkelKinect package and looking to see if you can give me some advice as a complete beginner. I will play, more like hopelessly toy, with the software at a real basic level but am wondering if there is some guidance from experienced users/developers on basic functions that I can build on?

        Thanks
        Ben

        • brekel says:

Recent NVidia and ATI cards should work, not sure about the latest series of the Intel ones.
Rolling back to v0.40 of Brekel Kinect wouldn’t make much of a difference regarding display speed btw.
It’s all about pushing 640×480 vertices at 30 fps onto the card, and I’m using some OpenGL specific acceleration features to accomplish that in realtime.

    First time user here.

I was told to try the Brekel solution with kinect xbox and MotionBuilder. However, since this my first time, which file should I download?

    Brekel Kinect Setup v0.50.exe ?
Brekel Kinect MoBu Device v0.14.exe ?

    Both files?

Appreciated and thank you for any advise / directions.
    Miguel

    • brekel says:

      Hi Miguel,

If you want to get data streamed live into MotionBuilder you’ll need both files.

The first one is the base application that is used to connect to the Kinect, do all the calculations and visualizations.

The second one is the device plugin for MotionBuilder that streams the data from the base application in.

If all you want to do is record some data you can also just use the base application to record to BVH files.

      Have fun!

    hey there.

Just to let you know microsoft changed their licensing for the kinect sdk as they released v1 which allows commercial use.

I was just wondering if you plan on implementing the new version into brekel for motionbuilder use?

  • Hi,

there is a new update of multiple Kinect capture software http://labs.manctl.com/rgbdemo/

would be fun to make use of two kinects

  • ryan says:

Can you implement this with MS Kinect SDK?

  • Austin says:

I can’t figure out where the download button is.

  • xenoaisam says:

Thank you for new update! So additional software can be uninstall now. 🙂
