Blender support

One of the Brekel Kinect Pro Face users by the name of Marwin Portugal is working on an addon script for Blender to read the capture data.

Although he’s not finished yet you can download a WIP script that already supports the Animation Units from his page here:

Kinect based project for Mercedes-Benz in Chengdu, China

Check out my latest Kinect based project with 3D mapping and projection specialists NuFormer.

Kinect head tracking was used to change the viewpoint of a 3D rendered scene so that it would appear to be playing out behind the windscreen of the newest Mercedes. Stepping to the left/right would allow you to look around the corner into the car.

Furthermore gesture tracking was used to enhance the interactivity to engage the public to wipe things off the windscreen.

Tutorial – Face Rigging 101 for Brekel Kinect Pro Face

I’ve posted a tutorial on how to connect a blendshape / morph target rig to FBX data from Brekel Kinect Pro Face.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZEamKAcEjQ

I use Maya but the concepts should be applicable to any 3D package that can read FBX files and use blendshapes / morph targets, which should be pretty much any 3D package nowadays 🙂

If you want to follow along, the latest installers will place the  example rig in your installation folder, example data files can be found on the downloads page.

Big thanks to Jochem Aarts from www.realizm.nl for providing the model!

Brekel Kinect v0.50 update

Motor/LED support doesn’t an additional driver anymore.
Plus this version should be more stable when doing long continuous recordings.

Have a good 2012!
