Installation instructions
This program is OLD, check the main page for the latest versions.
Quick and automatic method (needs internet connection):
1. Completely remove any currently installed Kinect drivers (OpenNI, OpenKinect-libreenect, Code Laboratories CL-NUI)
2. Install drivers using the All-in-one OpenNI Kinect Auto Installer (from the downloads page)
3. Install the latest Brekel Kinect base application (from the downloads page)
4. Optionally install the MotionBuilder plugins (from the downloads page)
Manual method (only in case the automatic method doesn’t work, or you know what you’re doing):
1. Completely remove any currently installed Kinect drivers (OpenNI, OpenKinect-libreenect, Code Laboratories CL-NUI)
2. Download and install OpenNI (pick 32bit even on a 64bit OS) (link is dead since Apple acquired PrimeSense/OpenNI and discontinued it)
3. Download and install the Kinect drivers
4. Download and install NITE (pick 32bit even on a 64bit OS) (link is dead since Apple acquired PrimeSense/OpenNI and discontinued it)

Your Windows Device Manager should look something like this:
5. Try one of the OpenNI samples:
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenNI\Samples\Bin\Release\NiSimpleViewer.exe
It should come up with a yellowish fulscreen stream of the depth sensor.
(Note: examples are only included in the Development Editions of OpenNI)
Go back to step 1 if this doesn’t run.
6. Install the latest Brekel Kinect base application (from the downloads page)
(Your firewall may ask for permission to open a port)
7. Optionally install the MotionBuilder plugins (from the downloads page)
Troubleshooting:
– Make sure you use the separate power adapter for your Kinect.
(Included with standalone Kinect, separately purchasable if you got a Kinect bundled with your XBox360)
– Make sure your Kinect is connected directly to your computer not through a USB hub
– Sometimes swapping to a different USB port helps
