Brekel Face

Brekel Face is a family of Windows applications for real-time markerless face motion capture using Microsoft Kinect depth sensors. You sit or stand in front of the sensor, the software tracks your head motion and facial expressions, and you record the result as animation data (for driving blendshapes / morph targets on your own characters) or stream it live into MotionBuilder, Unity or Unreal Engine.

Fair warning up front: neither version is in active development anymore (occasional compatibility updates still happen). The apps run fine on Windows 10/11 if you have a Kinect sensor or can find one second-hand.

Of the two, Brekel Face v2 is the one to prefer: it uses the Kinect v2 sensor and tracks up to 6 people and 20 face shapes, including left/right asymmetry and eye blinks. Face v1 remains available as the cheaper option if you own an original Kinect v1.

Starting fresh with modern hardware? Brekel Body v3 is in active development and includes face tracking alongside body capture, from its supported sensors or from an HMC (Head Mounted Camera).
